Promoting and Interpreting Our Heritage

Telltale is the accumulation of OWNER Rebecca Reid’s 30 years experience identifying and telling the tales of some of New Zealand's most significant heritage places to visitors through a mix of interpretive media in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Telltale, works collaboratively with government departments, community groups, scientists, historians, editors, graphic designers, artists, engineers, and printers to deliver interpretation projects from concept through to completion.

Becky has strengths in interpretive concept planning, heritage research and writing, (including image research) and thematic based storytelling. These skills are complimented by a background in conservation and management of natural, historic and cultural heritage sites. Her career began with the Department of Conservation in 1989 working in various Nationals Parks in the recreation, interpretation and public awareness fields before she went on to work for the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage N.Z) in the early 2000’s as Otago/Southland’s Area Coordinator. Recently she was also the property manager (2015-2019) for Hayes Engineering Works and Homestead, a Category 1 historic site owned by Heritage New Zealand – a  key visitor attraction on the Otago Central Rail Trail.

Telltale Interpretation focuses on understanding each site or place and their visitors and provides meaningful and engaging experiences for people through a variety of interpretive media that integrates the authentic stories and pictorial/visuals of the place with the valuable physical or intangible clues on-site. She has a keen interest in recording oral histories, enriching peoples understanding of place and sparking their curiosity through real stories and experiences.

Becky has project managed an extensive range of interpretation projects on public lands such as; reserves, national parks, tramping huts, walkways, museums, visitor centres and outdoor natural and cultural heritage sites. Her work has taken her to many corners of Otago and Southland and the West Coast of the South Island. Becky finds that being able to share New Zealand's stories in a creative and moving way in the landscape and at the places where they actually happened, the most rewarding.
